A Day In The Life Of An AXIS Technologist

August 10, 2016

The team at AXIS Neuromonitoring is in the business of helping people, ensuring patients get the best care possible.  To accomplish this, AXIS technologists have a full day of patient care.  Ever wondered what that’s like?  Here is a typical day in the life:

AXIS technologists are prepared!  They arrive at least an hour before the patient’s surgery.  This allows them time to become familiar with the patient’s chart, set up equipment, and work with the O.R. staff to ensure a smooth start to surgery.   AXIS technologists pride themselves on being prepared and punctual.

AXIS technologists take time to visit with the patient. It’s important that the patient knows that AXIS is here for their safety, and that their surgeon is taking extra precautions to help ensure it. The technologist explains that recording electrodes will be placed on the patient’s wrist and ankles in pre-op or once in surgery.  The technologist explains how the information is gathered via the electrodes and how they will provide the surgeon with real-time information on the patient’s central and peripheral nervous systems during surgery.

AXIS technologists work closely with the surgical team before, during and after the procedure. The technologist communicates with the anesthesiologist about the modalities they will be running prior to the start of surgery.  During the case, the technologist notifies the surgeon and interpreting physician of any baseline data and activity changes during the surgery.  After the surgery, the technologist completes paperwork, removes all electrodes from the patient, packs up the equipment and follows up with the patient post operatively.

AXIS technologists are constantly learning. When not in surgery, AXIS technologists are receiving some of the world’s finest education in the art of neuromonitoring, always bettering their skills.  They also work with the AXIS Patient Care Advocate Team to ensure that their patients are doing well post surgery.

And then it’s off to prepare for the next patient!
