How to ensure my insurance company covers IONM
December 21, 2015
When it comes to surgery, the most difficult part may not be the recovery. It’s dealing with the insurance company. After all, it’s no secret that insurance companies oftentimes don’t approve and pay for every procedure requested by doctors and surgeons.
And since many requests and conversations about a patient’s healthcare happen without the patients in the room, many don’t know who to call, what to say, or even know what questions to ask.
If you have concerns that your insurance company may not pay for the intraoperative neuromonitoring during your next procedure, we’re here to help.
Did your surgeon request IONM?
It’s very important to find out if your surgeon requested Axis Neuromonitoring out of medical necessity to monitor during your procedure. If you don’t already know, simply call and ask.
Contact AXIS
Call our AXIS Patient Advocate Team at 888-344-2947 and press 3. Tell us everything you know: who your surgeon is, what hospital you’re using, what procedure you’re getting done, the date of your surgery, etc. One of our team members will also collect your insurance information, so have your card handy, and explain the process to you.
It’s also important to provide us with all of your financial information, especially if you’re concerned about your deductible and any fees you will owe. For some patients with financial hardships, we can help with applicable discounts for self pay and commercial insurance.
Pre-Certification
After you speak with our Patient Advocate Team, our Pre-Certification Team will work directly with your insurance company. They specialize in the way insurance companies operate, as well as the requirements, codes, and other insurance variables that patients never see.
If your surgeon requested IONM out of medical necessity, contact the AXIS Patient Care Advocate Team so we can verify your benefits before surgery. Our Pre-Certification team will then work with your insurance company to get IONM covered.
It may take a little more work on your part, but a phone call to us will greatly help your chances of making sure your insurance will pay for IONM during your next surgery.
