In a remote Italian region lives a few hundred people over the age of 90. They have shown to be in excellent mental health, even if their bodies are showing their age.
Researchers at the University of Rome La Sapienza and University of California San Diego School of Medicine studied this unique group and discovered that they share common psychological traits, which have most likely lead to their superior mental well being.
As a whole, they possess positivity, high work ethic, stubbornness, and a strong bond with family, religion and land.
The study followed 29 people in nine different villages. A series of interviews and quantitative rating scales were used to assess the subjects’ mental well being.
