Your fitness tracker and healthcare

Wearable fitness trackers are here to stay, and health insurers are jumping on the bandwagon.
For example, UnitedHealthcare has plans that allow customers to wear FitBit devices and have their activity tracked for the potential of earning up to $1,500 in health care services.
Since over half of adults wear some sort of fitness tracker, the potential for doctors and healthcare providers to use the data is increasing every day. But with the potential changes coming to healthcare laws, the benefits may fall by the wayside.
It’s possible that fitness tracker data could be used to deny individuals coverage or justify insurance rate hikes. But only time will tell with that.
